Pecan Bakery and Cafe

There is a new little bakery/cafe that opened on the Upper West Side called Pecan.  It’s sister shop is down in Tribeca so welcome to uptown, Pecan!  It’s pretty great here.  They play Adele, have fabulous and healthy sandwiches and salads, offer breakfast, make tea and coffee beverages AND serve some delicious little chocolate chip cookies!  I decided to have a

Healthy delicious cookies without the guilt!

Have you ever heard of the “Caveman Diet?”  If you’re like me, I hadn’t heard of it until I came upon Caveman Cookies.  They instantly sparked my curiosity.  This diet is a holistic way of eating based upon the food we “grew up” with that is easily digestible rather than foods that have recently been introduced into the human diet (when I say recently, I’m talking hundreds of years ago…ex: grains and dairy).  Can a cookie be good if

Extra Virgin’s Peanut Butter Brownie Sundae

I was pretty psyched to see a Peanut Butter Brownie Sundae on the menu at Extra Virgin, an Italian restaurant in the West Village.  It even sounded extra delicious: chocolate sauce, peanut brittle, vanilla ice cream and whipped cream.  I couldn’t go wrong and I didn’t!  The definite standout in this sundae was the

Red Velvet Cheesecake Profiterole Sundae

If I see the words “Red Velvet” on a dessert menu there is a very good chance that I will order it and not even look at any other options.  At the newest location of Atlantic Grill at Lincoln Center, the Red Velvet Cheesecake Profiterole Sundae won my heart.  Even in this case, where profiteroles (cream puffs) are NOT my favorite dessert, the red velvet cheesecake ice cream part was enough to get me to say, “Yes, please!”  This sundae consisted of three

Why not cover chocolate cake in heavy cream??

It has been awhile since I can remember truly being wowed over a dessert at a restaurant.  These two desserts, however, at Casellula Cheese & Wine Cafe were INCREDIBLE! First was the Chocolate Cake with a side of Meadowbrook Cream.  This play on “ice cream” with your chocolate cake was so unique and creative!  They present it to your table with the heavy cream in a small jug and then pour it slowly over the slice of cake.  My mouth was watering and I’m pretty sure there was drool

Introducing Butter + Love Cookies, Holiday Gift Guide #10!

My good friend, Alison Walla, is not only a fellow musical theatre actress, she also has magic fingers and makes scrumptious cookies!  By appearance, they seem like the traditional Linzer cookie. But Alison has taken them to an entirely new level.  Using her grandmother’s recipe, she bakes the buttery flakey shortbread cookies and fills the center with blissful jam – all of which is homemade with love.  Butter + Love.  I sampled her classic

Compartes Chocolate, Holiday Gift Guide #9!

Compartes Chocolates was founded in 1950 by Mrs. Compartes, a woman who wanted to bring European chocolate to the United States.  Well, it worked because people have been coming back for more than 50+ years.  They have been famous for their chocolate-dipped glaced apricots since the 1950′s (Winston Churchill and Marilyn Monroe were fans).   Jonathan Graham, the 25-year-old owner, took
