Traverse City Pie Company…East Lansing, MI

Located in East Lansing, Michigan is a small shop that bakes lots of delicious pies, cookies, muffins, breads, etc. It called my name the first time I drove by; I knew I had to stop there before my week was over! Walking in I was immediately overwhelmed by all the options! Blackberry, blueberry, crumbles, creams! If there was a pie heaven, this may have been it! Luckily, I was buying for a friend as well so I had authority to get multiple delights. (I know what your thinking….I would have ordered multiple delights anyway!) I went for a “Blondie favorite”, the classic Banana Cream Pie as well as a homemade peanut butter cup and a frosted sugar cookie.
The Banana Cream Pie was excellent. Instead of a high meriq topping, it had dollops of whipped cream. The vanilla pudding was nice and creamy with big chunks of bananas throughout. The crust was a little dry for my taste, but held the pudding well and therefore was a nice base. If I ever come back to Traverse City Pie Company, I don’t think I would order it again only because they have so many flavors I would want to try something different.
The homemade sugar cookie was AMAZING! I admit that I am a sucker for any sugar cookie, especially if it is generously frosted! This was so thick and so fresh that it barely stayed together in my hands. You could actually taste the butter and sugar in this underbaked masterpiece. The frosting was that thin, hard sugar frosting that you see on a lot of Christmas cookies. Not a buttercream texture at all, it’s so full of sugar it almost disinagrates right away in your mouth. I planned on eating half and sharing the other portion with my friend, but that plan did not last! I ate the whole thing and felt just like a kid again!
I didn’t know what the homemade PB cup was until I asked the lovely employee. I saw the cookie bottom, but didn’t realize it was chocolate chip cookie in a cupcake form! When she told me that it was filled with creamy peanut butter inside and topped with chocolate buttercream…I said, “SOLD!” I couldn’t wait to try this version of my favorite candy bar. Unfortunately, the cookie was really dry. It crumbled away at every bite. BUT, the center filling made up for it and so I ended up digging out the PB topped with chocolate buttercream with a spoon! YUMMY! If the cookie would have been fresh, chewy, and soft, it would have been the ultimate peanut butter cup.
To sum it up…Yes, there were a few things wrong at Traverse City Pie Company. But, I would still suggest stopping there if you are ever in East Lansing. I’m sure that you would find something you liked! xoxoBlondie
