Revenge IS so Sweet!!!

Sweet Revenge is an adorable cafe in the West Village that does everything right!  I had the pleasure of talking with the owner tonight, Marlo, who was right there to answer questions and offer suggestions to all her customers.  The atmosphere at Sweet Revenge is like an intimate European bistro.  I love that you can listen to good music, have a glass of wine, and eat a cupcake all at one place.  I had the PERFECT dessert tonight…a cupcake gelato sandwich!!  IT WAS AMAZING!!!!  I chose the Malaysian Coconut Cupcake with Tahitian Vanilla Gelato and a side of whipped cream.  I have never had a cupcake gelato sandwich, and now that I have, I don’t think I can go back.  Marlo cut the cupcake right in half and then put a perfect scoop of gelato right between the layers.  I asked for the whipped cream because I love whipped cream and can always have a little on the side.  The cupcake cake had a perfect coconut flavor and was very dense, yet moist.  Marlo told me they use a delicious coconut extract for the flavoring.  The thick, sugared coconut buttercream was FANTASTIC.  (Sidenote…they do frosting martinis here, which is frosting in a small martini glass…OMG!)  The unique design for their frosting on the cupcakes is fun and makes great “case appeal.”  Sprinkled on top of the frosting was toasted coconut flakes.  When I took the first bite of this masterpiece, I knew I found a new love.  The coconut cake and vanilla gelato was creamy and sweet all at once.  As the gelato melted it soaked into the coconut cake making it a spongy texture.  When it was all over, the melted gelato at the bottom of the bowl tasted like sweetened cereal milk.  I literally picked the bowl up and drank it down.  I contemplated for ten minutes about ordering another one because it was that good.  Sweet Revenge would be a great date place, but also somewhere you could sit solo at the bar.  When you go make sure to meet Marlo, she’ll be behind the bar making everyone happy!  xoxo Blondie

Quality Meats = Quality Desserts

photo-1photo

Quality Meats is a fantastic steakhouse located on 58th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues.  One thing I love about steakhouses is that you can always count on good desserts, and QM certainly fits the bill.  I was sitting at the bar last night enjoying wine and conversation with friends.  QM has a great bar!  It’s right under street level, so it’s dark and intimate, with cozy  leather couches surrounding the white marble bar top.  Well, to my surprise Read More »

Weekend Cinnamon Buns at Le Vain!

dscn2342dscn2343

I’m very familiar with this UWS bakery (I voted it best cookies in the city), but what I didn’t know about was their secret treasure….cinnamon buns! Sold only on the weekends, these are just huge hunks of gooey deliciousness. My friend Pam actually called me on the phone one day and said, “I’m watching Oprah and she’s featuring these cinnamon buns at Le Vain’s that were voted best in NYC!” Well, of course, I had to try them. There are two kinds: walnut and raisin. They are so fresh and the thick, baked dough is so chewy. The walnuts were a nice nutty taste against all the sweetness. The raisins, I have to say, were a bit too many in number. I felt overwhelmed with the amount, so I ended up scraping some off. Needless to say, they were pretty darn good. The glaze was perfect as well. They reminded me of the “Sticky Buns” you can buy in vending machines in grade school. What these cinnamon buns have over most is the freshness of being made by a fab bakery that knows what they’re doing. So if you’re having a “Lazy Sunday” and don’t feel like a Magnolia cupcake, I say “run for the bun!” xoxoBrownie

Could this be true?  A shot that tastes like Yellow Cake?  On Monday night I was hanging out with some friends at Bar 12 on E. 34th Street.  We were watching the Cavs sweep Atlanta, GO CAVS!!!  Anyway, all of a sudden I hear the words “Yellow Cake Shot,” and my head turns to the bartender with eyes wide with intrigue!  I ask Josh, the bartender, did you just say a Yellow Cake shot??   Could Blondie have found her perfect shot?  Oh yes, it’s true.  My friend Chris quickly orders them up!  Behind the bar, Josh is making a concoction that is hard to follow.  He is moving fast and being tricky…he puts on a great show!  What I did manage to see was some pineapple juice, a key ingredient.  As he pours the yellow mixture, it even smells like cake.  We all cheers and take our shots…YUMMY!!  It was perfectly blended with a nice sweetness.  I think it would make a great martini even.  So, come down to Bar 12 and have Josh make you some of his delicious creations.  If you are a Cavs fan, ask for the King James shot!  xoxo Blondie

Big Daddy’s Cookie Crisp Fried Cookie Dough Sundae!

securedownload-3

Yes, you heard me correctly.  Big Daddy’s is taking balls of chocolate chip cookie dough, rolling them in Cookie Crisp cereal, and FRYING THEM!!!  If that isn’t enough, they scoop vanilla ice cream on top, cover it in chocolate sauce, whip cream, and rainbow sprinkles!!  Honestly, when I saw this on the menu I couldn’t believe my eyes.  Whoever thought of this deserves an award.  I’ve heard and tasted the fried oreo, but fried cookie dough!!!!  AHAHAHAHAHA!!!!  Ok…so was it as good as it looks?  You can see in the picture the fried pieces.  They were more like raviolis.  I actually thought the amount of dough was lacking.  I pictured big balls of dough being fried, so when the ravioli’s came out…I was a little disappointed.  But, when I got a “good bite” (that being one with a good amount of c.c.c.d., ice cream, choc. sauce, whipped cream, and sprinkles all in one) the taste sensation was amazing.  You have a crunch from the frying, the warm gooey dough, and the cold from the ice cream.  Lots of flavors and lots of textures all at once.  I give Big Daddy’s so many points for the desserts menu.  From creative sundaes such as this, to cupcakes, or dessert pancakes…you are sure to please your sweet tooth.  xoxo Blondie

Please Sir, Can I have S’MORE!!!!!

securedownload-4

Five Napkin Burger on 9th ave and 45th not only serves up some mouth watering burgers with a great side of fries, but milkshake creations that deserve attention!  These milkshakes, I believe, should be ordered as a dessert because they are to special to be overlooked when your burger arrives.  The S’Mores milkshake is possibly the creamiest milkshake I have ever drank.  As you sip this shake, bits of marshmallow left over from the blending process leave little chunks throughout.  Then to top it off is a HUGE, toasted mallow!!!  The mallow has to be homemade and can either be saved till the end or eaten right away.  I actually took it out and dumped into my coffee!!  GENIUS!!  One thing I have to say is that I have ordered this milkshake before and it was topped completely different!  It had a mound of whipped cream and graham cracker crumbs?!?  I loved that version too, but I hope they stick to the toasted mallow.  So for a pre-theater or post show dessert, head over to Five Napkin Burger!!  xoxo Blondie

Shake Shack…yet again!

securedownload-2

What could be better than a late night Concrete at Shake Shack?!?!?  If you haven’t wondered down to Madison Sq Park or ventured to the UWS location yet to order a famous concrete, you can’t call yourself a New Yorker.  The other night I created my own concrete.  I chose peanut butter sauce, marshmallow, and chocolate truffle cookie dough.  The creamyness from the marshmallow, blended with the marshmallow, created an amazing fluffernutter base for the cookie dough!!  It was absolutely delicious and a PERFECT end to the evening.  We sat under the twinkle lights in the park for a magical NY moment.  xoxo Blondie
