The Shake Shack has come a long way with their desserts.  I absolutely LOVE their flavor of the day custards that are OUT OF THIS WORLD DELICIOUS.  I enjoy a “flavor of the day option” because the anticipation as you walk up to the menu is so invigorating!  Will it be a flavor I like?  Have I tried this flavor before?  Maybe it’s the flavor I have been dying to try for 2 months now?!?!  Today the flavor was called “Giggles.”  Not knowing what that could possibly mean, I was overjoyed to find out it was a chocolate, peanut butter, and snickers mix.  After a tiny sample, I ordered a double scoop.  Shake Shacks’s custard is unbelievably creamy; silky even.  It melts in your mouth, but slowly because it is so thick.  Every bite leaves you wanting more and when you come to the end of your cup, that’s all you want…MORE!  I could taste all three of the ingredients (the lovely waitress told me I would).  I don’t know why it was called “Giggles,” but I was definitely smiling.  All the custard is homemade and the convenient “B line” makes ordering it super quick!  I also LOVE the concretes at Shake Shack.  I did not get one today, but have enjoyed them in the past.  Made with the delicious custard, they blend in a variety of toppings to create a blizzard of sorts.  Concretes are super thick and chock full of goodness so make sure to try one too!  For all you Mets fans out there…the NEW Citifield has a Shake Shack in the stadium.  For all of you non Mets fans out there…you’re Mets fans now aren’t ya?!

OREO CUPCAKE FROM ALICE’S TEA CUP!

two-cupcakesclose-up1 So, I went to Alice’s Tea Cup on the East Side for lunch the other day.  There was a schedule mix up, so my girlfriend who was supposed to be working, was not.  But, as I was standing at the counter something NEW caught my eye!  Something BIG and chocolate with large pieces of Oreo mixed in.  I asked the hostess at the counter what this new addition was, and she confirmed my thoughts.  An OREO CUPCAKE!  Now, everyone knows that Blondie’s favorite piece of cake in NYC is from Alice’s.  I just blogged about it last week.  So, to have a new cupcake that incorporates the richest chocolate cake with an Oreo buttercream was all I needed to hear.  It just so happened that I needed a dessert to attend a dinner party, so I bought three! (They sell for $3 each, but are very large)  I was also told that there is a marshmallow filling inside the cupcake!!!!  I could not wait for dinner to be over so I could dunk this form of OREO into my mouth!!!
inside-3inside-cupcake Just like twisting an Oreo cookie apart to reveal the creamy cener, I cut this cupcake in half.   As you can see the generous amount of filling is exploding out of the cupcake.  The Oreo buttercream is a thick layer with huge pieces of Oreo cookie mixed in.  The cake was rich and dense enough to withhold the filling.  Alice’s buttercream can do no wrong and adding Oreo chunks sent me to dessert heaven.  I have yet to see this cupcake at the UWS location so head over to the UES (64th and lex) and try an Oreo cupcake.  xoxo Blondie

Blondie’s Birthday!

dscn2286
To celebrate my bestest friend’s birthday this year, we had a make-your-own sundae party! Blondie never disappoints when it comes to sweets on her birthday. Each guest had to bring one of Blondie’s favorite sundae toppings. Of course, I brought brownies and blondies! I had never tried Magnolia Bakery’s selection of our trademark desserts, so I grabbed some from the UWS locale. They were fantastic! The chocolate one was gooey and rich, and the blondie was made with peanut butter and Heath bars! How could you go wrong! Her sister made delish mac and cheese as our dinner beforehand too.   At the end of the night, we were delightfully satisfied:-). Happy Birthday Blondie! xo Brownie

Today I traveled, by way of my new “Blonde” Vespa, down to Tribeca Treats.  Located on Reade street, this small sweet shop has been on my list of places to try for months.  I enjoyed the atmosphere a lot.  Surrounding the counter are cool candles for birthday cakes, cards, books, and gift ideas.  No doubt this is a one stop shop for someone going to a birthday party!  Since I had my husband with my to share in this days indulgence, we ordered a cupcake, ice cream sandwich, and two cookies!  Prices are very reasonable ($2 per cupcake) and the portions are perfect for an afternoon treat.   I even had the pleasure to meet the very “sweet” owner, Rachel, who filled me in on what I was tasting… Read More »

Fred’s

My good friend took me to dinner tonight at one of her favorite places on the UWS.  Fred’s is a restaurant/bar that is covered in hundreds of dog photos all over the walls.  The establishment was named after the owners’ Labrador retriever.  They wanted their place to stand for everything Fred did: “Loyalty, reliability, an ingrained need to please and a playful spirit.”  This is exactly the energy I received while dining.  Our food was delicious (they have great fries), and we enjoyed the goldfish they served at the bar.  We ended the evening with their “Industrial Strength Fudge Brownie”- topped with vanilla gelato and drizzled with chocolate sauce.  The presentation, as you can see, was beautiful.  I loved how the brownie was made circular, so their was that chewy edge all around (my favorite part).  The middle was warm and gooey.  I have to say that I was not a fan of the gelato due to the lack of creaminess.  You really need it to counter the richness of the brownie, so I must recommend you ask for an extra scoop since there was definitely not enough of it for every last bite.  Overall though, Brownie was very happy with her brownie:-).  It was a friendly atmosphere with lots of canine love coming from the walls!
