After a fantastic French dinner in Brooklyn with friends, my goal was to finish the night with a sweet!  We had tried to get in to this little Italian place called Al Di La for dinner, but the wait was too long.  They do in fact have a wine bar around the corner that serves the same menu, and after glancing at someone’s dessert in the restaurant, I excitedly suggested Read More »

One of my favorite things to do is find the most adorable and delicious places in areas you wouldn’t expect for them to be.  Well, on the recommendation of a Chef friend of mine, I went to Ruby et Violette on 50th between 9th and 10th.  Sooooo cute!  It’s like stepping inside a couture 1900′s soda shop with a modern feel!  Boy was I in for a trip as I stepped up to the counter and saw the scrumptious kinds of Read More »

J’adore Le Petit Belge!  I truly believe one of the greatest things about New York is the many options we have in food.  Having the ability to eat food from around the world is a luxury that I try to fulfill.  I have always wanted to go to Belgium for the famous “Belgian Waffles” and now I have!  Brownie and I were lucky to have a tasting here and man, waffles have NEVER tasted this Read More »

How Sweet It Is

How sweet it is to be in this bakery!!  Located on Allen Street in the lower east side is this tiny bake shop serving big time sweets.  Everything here looked delicious, but I tried their cupcakes because the flavors where unique and the cupcakes were filled!  Since Red Velvet Cake is my favorite, I tried the red velvet cupcake first. It was filled with cream cheese buttercream icing and topped with the same.  The cream cheese frosting was perhaps the best I have ever had!  The buttercream tasted more of cream cheese than sugar which was delightful surprise!  It was immensely creamy and thick and also served a little chilled.   Normally I hate chilled cupcakes, but I didn’t mind here because the chilling helped to pronounce the cream cheese flavor.  The cake was light, moist and well balanced against the buttercream.  It also was topped with adorable candy hearts!  The next cupcake I tried was the PB&J.  It was filled with jam and topped with a very
rich, very peanut buttery buttercream frosting.  This buttercream had ample amounts of PB in it and against the jam filling was salty/sweet explosion in my mouth.  This cupcake tasted like a PB&J sandwhich rolled up, baked, and put into cupcake form.  Absolutely delicious!  A glass of cold milk would accompany this well.  I need to go back to How Sweet It Is because they also serve ice cream cookie sandwiches and a dense flourless chocolate cake that would cure any PMS day!!

Brownie’s Wedding!!!

I married the love of my life!!!  The wedding was right here in NYC!  We wed at a church on 5th Avenue, and then headed to Tavern on the Green for the reception.  It was an amazing day, and of course, Amanda was my Matron of Honor:-).  Now let’s get to it, the cake was incredible!  We worked with Collette Folley of Alice’s Teacup (literally my favorite place ever!), and created a spectacular treat!  We went with the monarch style cake, which is white icing, but trimmed with colorful flowers on each layer.  My favorite part, chocolate butterflies sitting on some of the flowers!  I decided on their chocolate butter cake, dulce de leche filling, and buttercream frosting.  AMAZING.  Alice’s teacup makes a good cake.  And yes, I had a make-your-own sundae bar like Amanda did because….why not??!!  If you go to Alice’s (and you MUST), please try their cake!
