Whether you are Vegan or have no idea what Vegan food is, there is something for everyone at Blossom. I was having dinner there the other night, and was just blown away but one of their desserts.  Vegan food is made without any animal products, including dairy, which is huge in the dessert world. At first, I was reluctant to try anything sweet since I love the “real thing,” but I was interested in what a classic dessert tastes like without dairy….especially in what I ordered: a Butterfinger Shake.  Notice, I didn’t say “milkshake” because it’s made with soy milk, soy ice cream, vegan peanut butter and chocolate. Of course, they couldn’t put an actual Butterfinger in it since that’s not vegan, but let me tell you, it tasted exactly like a Butterfinger. It was SO good!   I really couldn’t tell much of a difference from a normal milkshake.  I honestly will go back and have another if I’m craving a milkshake or “shake” in general. I encourage everyone to step outside the box and try one of Blossom’s delicious entrees and desserts. They’ve really done an amazing job at serving purely organic Vegan food!  xoxoBrownie

Magnolia Bakery

IMG_0327I know that everyone goes to Magnolia Bakery for cupcakes or at least associates it with cupcakes, but they actually have amazing pies too!  I recently tried the Snickers Ice Box Pie and was blown away!  The crust is really thick, almost an inch, and made from chocolate cookies!  It was the perfect base and really crunchy.  The inside was a cream cheese concoction that seemed to be sweetened with vanilla and sugar!  Then the famous Snickers Bar candy was chopped into small pieces and placed on the edges!!!  The chocolate crunchy crust mixed with the cream cheese center and chewy candy topping was definitely SNICKERS SATISFACTION! xoxoBlondie

OK, so we’ve already reviewed Jacques Torres, but I must give a shout out to their PEANUT BUTTER HOT CHOCOLATE!  It’s still quite cold so this is the perfect way to warm your insides.  Here’s the deal:  they take a cup, smother the edges with creamy PB, and then pour in their thick melted chocolate.  SERIOUSLY.  Not only do you get to enjoy the hot chocolate, but they give you a spoon to eat the chocolate and PB from the sides of the cup.  It’s the perfect ending to a glorious sweet treat.

Also, did you know you can get their amazing chocolate chip cookies served to you WARM.  Try it!  You won’t go back.  My recommendation is to get the PB Hot Chocolate and a warmed cookie together.  That’s what I did.  Mmmmm life is good. xoxoBrownie

CRUMBS

securedownload

I don’t stop into Crumbs enough!  With so many flavors and sizes of cupcakes, why I am not indulging everyday!?!?   Luckily, I stopped into an UWS location this evening and was NOT disappointed.  I love that Crumbs features different sizes of cupcakes.  Why shouldn’t I be able to choose how big my cupcake is!?!?  Sometimes I just want two bites, other days I want something normal, and when it’s been a long, hard day….I just might want the jumbo size!  How unique and nice of Crumbs to think of their customers needs!  Today I had a chocolate cupcake with Butterfinger frosting.  Butterfinger isn’t my favorite candy bar, but this frosting looked so good I simply couldn’t pass it up!  My first bite was incredible!  A super moist, fresh chocolate cake with a thick sugary frosting, filled with chunks of Butterfinger pieces!  I was in cupcake heaven!!!  I have become very picky about my chocolate cake.  Many times it has no chocolate flavor at all or is super dry.  This was not the case today.  Another Crumbs speciality is hidden inside the cupcake!!!  In the center of their cupcakes is filling!  Frosting filling!!!  So, just as I was coming to the center of my cake, BAM!…more frosting!!!  This time it was really buttery, almost a peanut butter flavor with no pieces of actual Butterfinger.  It was creamy, lighter, and made my cupcake that much better!  I LOVE fillings!  Fill it up!  Crumbs also bakes rather large cookies and cakes if you need something other than a cupcake.  It’s official.  Blondie is a Crumbs believer and you should be too!

xoxo Blondie

Grom Gelato

A few words…since Grom opened in NYC I have wanted to try it.  Lines out the door, people walking by with their cones filled with Gelato,  always peeked my interests.  Well, the other night I finally went to Grom and was slightly disappointed.  For how expensive it is and how small the scoop, I was hoping to be transfered to Italy at my first lick.  Alas, I was still on the UWS.  I didn’t even take a picture because I didn’t think it even worthy.  If you want amazing Gelato….I highly recommend L’Arte Del Gelato in the West Village.  It’s Gelato at it’s BEST.  xoxo Blondie

Papardella, a fantastic Italian restaurant on the UWS, just opened a walk-up gelato stand!  It has been open for a few weeks, and I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am about this!  I love the food there, and now I’m even more in love with their creativity!  My husband and I walked up to their adorable window (on West 75th Street and Columbus) for an evening treat, and they informed us that not only do they have gelato, but homemade cookie gelato sandwiches!  Of course, we had to try the sandwich.  We chose the chocolate chip cookies with vanilla gelato.  WOW.  AMAZING.  WHAT?  Seriously, this was awesome!  The cookies had some giant chocolate chunks in them, and they were soft yet crunchy.  They seemed under-baked a little, which was  a perfect compliment to the gelato.  The vanilla gelato was soft and creamy.  Really, the entire dessert was fresh and gooey.  Mmmmmm.  This is definitely going to be a regular spot.  I can’t even tell you how good this was; you just need to go.  They also serve gelato on a waffle cone.  What a perfect and quick snack to get on a hot summer day.  Please go and try one!  Their food is delicious as well!  You will not be disappointed!  xoxoBrownie

Weekend Cinnamon Buns at Le Vain!

dscn2342dscn2343

I’m very familiar with this UWS bakery (I voted it best cookies in the city), but what I didn’t know about was their secret treasure….cinnamon buns! Sold only on the weekends, these are just huge hunks of gooey deliciousness. My friend Pam actually called me on the phone one day and said, “I’m watching Oprah and she’s featuring these cinnamon buns at Le Vain’s that were voted best in NYC!” Well, of course, I had to try them. There are two kinds: walnut and raisin. They are so fresh and the thick, baked dough is so chewy. The walnuts were a nice nutty taste against all the sweetness. The raisins, I have to say, were a bit too many in number. I felt overwhelmed with the amount, so I ended up scraping some off. Needless to say, they were pretty darn good. The glaze was perfect as well. They reminded me of the “Sticky Buns” you can buy in vending machines in grade school. What these cinnamon buns have over most is the freshness of being made by a fab bakery that knows what they’re doing. So if you’re having a “Lazy Sunday” and don’t feel like a Magnolia cupcake, I say “run for the bun!” xoxoBrownie

Shake Shack…yet again!

securedownload-2

What could be better than a late night Concrete at Shake Shack?!?!?  If you haven’t wondered down to Madison Sq Park or ventured to the UWS location yet to order a famous concrete, you can’t call yourself a New Yorker.  The other night I created my own concrete.  I chose peanut butter sauce, marshmallow, and chocolate truffle cookie dough.  The creamyness from the marshmallow, blended with the marshmallow, created an amazing fluffernutter base for the cookie dough!!  It was absolutely delicious and a PERFECT end to the evening.  We sat under the twinkle lights in the park for a magical NY moment.  xoxo Blondie
