On the menu it’s called the “Sundae,” it should be called “Brilliance in a Bowl.” Walk if not run to ABC Kitchen for dessert, their entire dessert menu perhaps. I sat at the bar in disbelief! How could I choose?? The “sundae”, chocolate cake with marshmallow frosting, vanilla chip ice cream cake, cobbler, pie……STOP IT RIGHT NOW! HOW IS A GIRL SUPPOSED TO CHOOSE! Read More »

Well, I have been waiting to write this review for a while, but I had to taste just the right desserts at Extraordinary Desserts. Of the many treats I tried, these two are my top picks. Located right by my apartment here in San Diego, this adorable dessert shop is definitely a must. They have a layout of stunning desserts unlike any I’ve seen! What I love about the restaurant is that it’s a sit-down place and has award worthy desserts you can accompany with a glass of vino, coffee, or tea. They are open late, which is key since most of us crave something sweet in the PM. The two lovelies Read More »

OK, so yes I’m still in San Diego (reviews from amazing places here to come!), but I still have incredible places in NYC that I must share with you! Dining at Pearl Oyster Bar in the West Village is a must for every New Yorker and visitor. The food was ridiculous (get the Lobster Roll!) and the dessert was fabulous. I enjoyed their Blueberry Pie with Read More »

I know that everyone goes to Magnolia Bakery for cupcakes or at least associates it with cupcakes, but they actually have amazing pies too! I recently tried the Snickers Ice Box Pie and was blown away! The crust is really thick, almost an inch, and made from chocolate cookies! It was the perfect base and really crunchy. The inside was a cream cheese concoction that seemed to be sweetened with vanilla and sugar! Then the famous Snickers Bar candy was chopped into small pieces and placed on the edges!!! The chocolate crunchy crust mixed with the cream cheese center and chewy candy topping was definitely SNICKERS SATISFACTION! xoxoBlondie

Three completely delectable desserts at one AMAZING location! Hub 51, in Chicago, is a fantastic restaurant that serves an array of American cuisine. I always know when you have a great dinner menu it usually equals a fantastic dessert menu. My table ordered a couple standouts so that we could all sample. Grandma Bee’s Chocolate Pudding Pie, the famous Carrot Cake, and the Warm Peanut Butter Float! So let’s begin…The chocolate pudding pie was INCREDIBLE! It had the thickest graham cracker crust I have ever seen on a pie. The chocolate pudding inside was thick, rich, and decadent! Then on top they roast mallows to give that “SMORE” taste. I’ll tell you what, it had me screamin for SMORE!!!! My favorite part though was the thick, crunchy crust that was almost like a cookie; so buttery and crisp!
Then came the Carrot Cake. Served on the side of this monster slice was a scoop of homemade whip cream AND a scoop of EXTRA CREAM CHEESE FROSTING! I thought I died and went to frosting heaven. (Which I really hope exists…unlimited amounts of frosting in heaven sounds sort of amazing!) Now, not only was the three layered cake filled with generous amounts of this frosting, I could dip my fork in the extra scoop before and after each bite!!! BRILLIANT! Oh did I mention it was vanilla bean laced? The carrot cake was really fresh, room temperature (very important because I hate refrigerated cake), and excellently spiced! It was the perfect dessert for the holiday weekend.
Next up, the warm peanut butter float, which I can say I have never had anything like before. Our waitress explained that they take peanut butter, eggs, and cream and whip it together to make this sort of half mouse/half milkshake consistency. Then they somehow warm it and dump to scoops of homemade dark chocolate gelato in the glass. I was skeptical of this float until I took my first bite and about DIED from the utter DELICIOUSNESS that EXPLODED in my MOUTH!!! The consistency, I will admit, was strange, but it didn’t bother me because it was so FREAKING CREATIVE AND GOOD! The dark chocolate gelato balanced the PB perfectly so that it wasn’t too sweet or too rich. Run to HUB 51 to try this float! xoxoBlondie

It’s apple season! And what better way to celebrate than with an apple pie! While dining at Bar Six, I finished my meal off with their “Special Dessert” for the evening: Apple Cobbler with vanilla ice cream. Now, I know what you’re thinking, “What’s so special about an apple cobbler?” Well, first of all, you can never go wrong with an apple cobbler and ice cream. Second, this isn’t your normal idea of the dessert. It was literally a mini apple pie. Yes, with the traditional pie crust top and everything! The only difference from a pie though was that there was no bottom crust, therefore putting it in the cobbler category. WOW. Seriously, the top was light and flaky and the apples were fresh and perfectly cooked. It was served in a mini pie pan right out of the oven. The ice cream had slightly melted on top, making it the perfect creaminess. And by the way, they know the the right amount of ice cream to use as well. I hate when there isn’t enough to finish off the dessert. I never ran out with this one! If you want a fabulous and traditional fall dessert, go check out Bar Six! xoxoBrownie

Ok, so as I am watching one of my favorite Food Network shows, The Best Thing I Ever Ate, I had a brilliant idea! I am leaving on the Young Frankenstein National Tour on Sept 21st. I will be touring all around the country with my show, but also looking for GREAT DESSERTS! Brownie is going to try to meet me in as many cities as possible so that we can be in search together! Blondie and Brownie take on America!
“The Best Thing I Ever Ate” is a unique show where the top chef’s and TV personalities of Food Network tell viewers about the best things they ever ate. This particular episode was called “Sugar Rush!” After seeing some of these desserts and their locations, I decided that I will make it to these restaurants in search for these sweets! Ironically, I have already been too or planned to go to them!
For instance, our first tour stop is Providence, RI. My husband and I are planning to celebrate our 2nd year wedding anniversary at Al Forno, an Italian restaurant. I picked it because of their dessert menu! What do you know, so did Alex Guarnaschelli!!!! She says they have the most amazing Apple Tart she’s ever had. It did look spectacular! Bi-Rite Creamery, in San Francisco, also made the list and for a good reason! I had a freaking fantastic brownie sundae there with salted caramel ice cream!!! WOW!
So here is my list so far and I ask you, dessert lovers across America, to write to us, and tell us where to go! After all, I will be in cities that I am unfamiliar with, and need help in finding the BEST sweets in America! xoxo Blondie
