“Life is short…EAT DESSERT FIRST!” is the motto here at this unique ice cream parlor in Philadelphia!  I wish I lived in Phili so that I could go here everyday!  Luckily, I happened to be walking by this heavenly place and stopped in.  Even more luck crossed my path when Matthew Shore, the owner, was there working!  I had no idea what to order here!  There were so many options that all sounded AMAZING!  What makes Scoops DeVille so unique is the drill like machine that takes either your ice cream or yogurt base along with your toppings of choice and creates a speciality soft serve!!!!  It’s absolutely incredible!!!  You can either create your own flavor or they have blends that Scoops suggest.  Matthew made me my first pick, Amber’s Ample Apple!  With a yogurt base, he blended apples, sugar cookie dough, caramel, and marshmallow together and out came APPLE PIE IN ICE CREAM FORM!!!  Matthew left two spoons in the cup, one that scooped the caramel and one that scooped the marshmallow.  So, as you eat you can choose which spoon and sauce topping you want your bites from.   I mean, this is taking ice cream to a whole new level!!!  Why aren’t more places doing this???!!!!  Ok, so the second flavor I tried is the #1 most ordered, Snicker Doodle Dough.
IMG_0335The Snicker Doodle Dough was incredible!  I can see why it is very popular with the costumers at Scoops.  They blended yogurt with sugar cookie dough, Snickers, and caramel syrup.  I could not stop eating this one!  Each bite I took off the caramel coated spoon was chock full of candy!  The sugar cookie dough blended perfectly and added extra sweetness!!!
I was amazed with both flavors how I could taste every ingredient, yet they were blended so well.  It was really fun to have this blizzard like creation in a soft serve form.  I tried to talk Matthew into opening one in New York City so that I could go everyday….or maybe work there!  I’d spend all day creating new flavors and EATING THEM ALL!  What a wonderful world that would be!!!  xoxoBlondie

Blondie and Brownie on the road!

the-best-thing

Ok, so as I am watching one of my favorite Food Network shows, The Best Thing I Ever Ate, I had a brilliant idea!  I am leaving on the Young Frankenstein National Tour on Sept 21st.  I will be touring all around the country with my show, but also looking for GREAT DESSERTS!  Brownie is going to try to meet me in as many cities as possible so that we can be in search together!  Blondie and Brownie take on America!
“The Best Thing I Ever Ate” is a unique show where the top chef’s and TV personalities of Food Network tell viewers about the best things they ever ate.  This particular episode was called “Sugar Rush!”  After seeing some of these desserts and their locations, I decided that I will make it to these restaurants in search for these sweets!  Ironically, I have already been too or planned to go to them!
For instance, our first tour stop is Providence, RI.  My husband and I are planning to celebrate our 2nd year wedding anniversary at Al Forno, an Italian restaurant.  I picked it because of their dessert menu!  What do you know, so did  Alex Guarnaschelli!!!!  She says they have the most amazing Apple Tart she’s ever had.  It did look spectacular!    Bi-Rite Creamery, in San Francisco, also made the list and for a good reason!  I had a freaking fantastic brownie sundae there with salted caramel ice cream!!!  WOW!
So here is my list so far and I ask you, dessert lovers across America, to write to us, and tell us where to go!  After all, I will be in cities that I am unfamiliar with, and need help in finding the BEST sweets in America! xoxo Blondie

My Personal List So Far:
Providence- Al Forno (Apple Tart)
Columbus- Jenny’s Ice Cream and “Brownie’s” favorite, Sugar Daddy’s
Baltimore-  Woodberry Kitchen (The CMP Sundae looks OUT OF THIS WORLD!)
Chicago- Tru (Chocolate Bar Dessert)

This is a very “cool” little yogurt shop that recently opened in the west village.  Their yogurt is a 90-calorie treat that is blended with your toppings of choice.  They somehow put it all together so that it comes out of the machine all mixed together.  It’s wonderful!  They have four types of “Eskibase” for your “Eskimix” which are: tart, vanilla, dairy free tofu, and sugar free.  There are fruit, candy, and sauce blend-ins and also blend-in boosters and toppings.  There are suggested combinations to choose from as well if you simply can’t decide.  I blended the vanilla base with Resees Pieces, banana, and marshmallows.  It was absolutely delicious!  Whatever you choose it pours out of the machine blended all together resembling a Dairy Queen Blizzard consistency.  So until the day DQ comes to NYC check out Eskimix for a similar treat!

Possibly the best thing to happen to yogurt, HAS!  You know when you are standing in line at Tasti-D and you wish you were behind the counter so that you could taste each flavor and then put as many toppings on as you wanted?  Does anyone else wish this… or just me?  Well, now you can!  Yogurtland charges by the ounce (only 39 cents!) so grab your cup and fill till your wallets desire.  It’s actually amazing how many flavors you can try with no one looking over your shoulder.  My favorite flavor is cookies and cream, but the banana tart was also extremely refreshing.  They even serve sugar free flavors that taste just as good.  Once you serve yourself your yogurt of choice head over to the toppings station.  From mango and even watermelon to cheesecake bites and coco puffs, there are 36 toppings for your choosing!   Let your imagination run wild here, nothing is going to stop you!  There are many choices, which makes coming back every night a high possibility!!  I am hoping that there are more Yogurtland’s in New York City’s future.

If anyone is a frozen yogurt fanatic, this place is an exception in the world of cold.  The regular tourist would not come upon Forty Carrots unless they take a shopping trip to Bloomingdale’s.  On the 7th floor, Forty Carrots rests, with it’s bright white, orange, and green colors as the décor.  You actually feel cleansed and refreshed just walking in there.  It is a healthy place to lunch, serving many delightful dishes.  When you first walk in, on your left is the frozen yogurt to go, or you can sit and have it served to you (after your meal, or as your meal).  The flavors vary day to day, but you can be sure they will always have their famous plain yogurt!  The fro-yo’s taste is tangy and sweet combined, cleansing your palate immediately.  The toppings are universal in choice from healthy granola and/or fruit to crumbled Oreos or peanut butter cups!  Mmmmm!  I went there one day and they had blueberry frozen yogurt, and I about died at every bite!  It was freakin amazing!  You didn’t need anything on it!  The portions are quite large, so order the smallest size.  If you’re shopping in the upscale store, in the area, or just in the mood for a cool treat, stop by and grab some of this refreshing and healthy dessert!
