Morgenstern’s…worth the hype?
On a Sunday evening, this place was packed with a line out the door. The buzz on Morgenstern’s has certainly been outrageous which is why this Lower East Side parlor looked like the Madison Sq Park Shake Shack during lunch hour. After reading reviews and constantly seeing pictures of the $18 banana split, I knew I had to get my ice cream lover self down to Rivington Street. It was a good thing the line was long because it gave me just enough time to decide on what to order. I finally decided on the Salted Caramel Pretzel Sundae. This sundae had three scoops of salted caramel ice cream, caramel cakes, pretzel crunch, caramel sauce and whipped cream. The caramel cakes sat at the bottom of the bowl, soaking in the melting ice cream and sauce. They were thick, chewy, and tasted like a rich caramel candy. The ice cream was incredible, the most flavorful ice cream I may have ever tasted. The pronounced flavor was so strong that one may think it too much, however I really enjoyed the forward salty/sweet taste. Chunks of crushed pretzel pieces added wonderful texture against the thick caramel sauce and creamy ice cream. This sundae was outstanding! I would go back to Morgenstern’s in a heartbeat, in fact, I can’t wait to try their other sundaes and scoops.
