Congrats to this week’s featured reader, Dana Ogilvie!  Dana is a singer/dancer/actress living in NYC, but since she always travels for work, she thought she’d include a pic from her current show (Fraulein Kost in Cabaret, which started at The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis and is now at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park) and a pic of Brian, her husband, and her at The Cup in St. Louis (which I discovered thanks to JDNYC!).  We met Dana on the national tour of 42nd Street and are so happy she has a sweet tooth like us.  Thanks for being an awesome reader Dana!   If you would like to be our reader of the week email a photointojustdessertsnyc@yahoo.com along with your answers to the five questions below.

1. What is your favorite dessert?

I definitely have to say cupcakes!!! Now, there are a lot of desserts I love–cheesecake, s’mores, dark chocolate, blueberry/cherry/pumpkin pie–but the best thing about cupcakes is that you can find them with each of those flavor combinations and more! There really is nothing better than an amazing cupcake! I’m currently doing a show in Cincinnati, which is famous for Graeter’s ice cream… BUT I just found out that there are cupcakes here in town, too, and I’m more excited to seek those out!
2. What is your favorite dessert in NYC?
It’s a tie between macarons from Sugar & Plumm (consistently delectable) and Schmackery’s cookies (particularly the Maple Bacon and Sweet Corn!).
3. What is your favorite dessert from your hometown?
My grandmother makes a cake that my family calls “Baba cake,” and I love it! It’s yellow cake with an icing that blends cream cheese, Cool Whip, and instant vanilla pudding, with chopped pineapple under the icing and coconut and walnuts on top. Simple, yet perfectly delicious. My Baba also makes a “Christmas candy” that’s made with dates, walnuts, marshmallows, graham crackers, and coconut… YUM!!! I’m salivating just thinking about it–is it Christmas-time yet??
4. If you met a magical dessert genie and he could grant you three wishes what would they be?
1–That The Cup, a cupcake bakery I just visited while working in St. Louis (and recommended by JustDessertsNYC!), would move to NYC. It’s my new favorite cupcake place, and it is way too far away from where I live!
2–That cheesecake would be calorie-free.
3–That marshmallows had nutritional value. I love marshmallows!!!
5. If you were a dessert what would you be and why?
My husband says pecan pie… cause that’s his favorite, and so am I:-)
