Dessert Pizza Tasting at Sotto 13!

One of the best perks of having a dessert blog is going to a tasting at a restaurant.  We happened to be invited to a West Village restaurant called Sotto 13 the other evening to sample their trail dessert menu of dessert pizzas!  There were four to taste and we even had a scorecard to rate each one and write in comments.  We couldn’t wait to dig in.  The first pizza was a poached pear and gorgonzola.  For any desserter that enjoys a cheese plate for your dessert, this pizza is for you.  We enjoyed the perfectly poached pears, but unfortunately cheese plates don’t count as a dessert for us!  This would be a delicious appetizer though!  Next up was a nutella s’mores pizza.  This pizza was definitely headed in the right direction!  It was covered in a layer of nutella then topped with roasted mini marshmallows and pieces of graham cracker.

 Just as we finished that slice, the third pizza arrived which was a vanilla cream covered in a berry compote.  The vanilla cream needed a little more punch, but the berry compote consisting of blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and kiwi was delicious.  The berries soaked into the crust making it a tad soggy, but it was light and refreshing.  To finish everything off the last dessert was a calzone filled with sweet ricotta cream and seasonal fruit.  We loved the sweet ricotta cream and both agreed that there could have been more of it!  The calzone was nice and hot with a fresh chewy dough covered in powdered sugar.  It was our favorite of the desserts.  We had a wonderful evening tasting the new fall menu and dessert pizzas at Sotto 13.  The restaurant is pleasurable in every way!
