The Vanderbilt is a tasty restaurant in Brooklyn, NY, that serves delicious food and drinks. After filling up on homemade sausages and deviled eggs, I couldn’t wait to dig into something sweet. Per our servers recommendation, I decided to order the flourless chocolate cake with cocoa nibs, ice cream, magic shell, and caramel. The magic shell, I must confess, is what sold me. My Grandmother always had magic shell at her house for ice cream sundaes and I haven’t had it in years! The cake itself was very rich, a but crunchy on the outside and very moist on the inside. There wasn’t a pool of chocolate that exploded in the middle, rather the whole cake inside seemed drenched with chocolate. My only problem with this dessert was the very tiny scoop of ice cream on the side. It was covered in magic shell (yummy) and caramel, but in two bites it was gone. I don’t understand why restaurants never give you enough ice cream with a cake or cobbler?? A flourless chocolate cake is so dense and rich it requires a bit of ice cream either with or after each bite. My ice cream ran out so I didn’t finish the cake, but it still was good. One day maybe my dream of a large scoop of ice cream with dessert will come true!
