Dun-Well Doughnuts a little shop in Brooklyn that specializes in organic artisanal vegan doughnuts. When I walked in to check out this doughnut shop I did not know that they were vegan. I simply ordered the Apple Pie doughnut sundae and sat down to enjoy my treat! That’s right, I said doughnut sundae! Why not add a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream to a doughnut? As I dug my spoon into my sundae, drenched in caramel sauce and a sprinkle of cinnamon, I noticed how fresh and soft the doughnut was. It had little pieces of apple on top and a wonderful cinnamon/sugar spice. The ice cream I noticed tasted a bit different, good, just different. It had an icy, sort of watery taste to it, but was very refreshing. When I inquired about the type of ice cream I learned that Dun-Well serves soy based ice cream which explained the different taste and texture. All in all, this doughnut sundae was an unexpected surprise. It wasn’t the heavy dessert I thought it was going to be. Instead, I felt light and guilt-free after. Vegan lovers should definitely head out to East Williamsburg to give Dunwell a try!
