New Hot Brunch Spot

I recently went to a bridal shower brunch in the East Village, and little did I know, I was dining at one of New York Magazine’s top ten best new restaurants in NYC.  Calliope is a rustic bistro that serves European farmhouse food.  I had a delicious omelet for breakfast, but we started off the brunch with Pear and Almond Puff Pastries, Fruit scones, and Brown Sugar Coffee Cake.  The puff pastry was light and fulfilling.  The cooked pear was atop a crunchy almond past and slithered almonds.  The fruit and nut combination with the flakey pastry paired with my coffee was a perfect start to the day.  The scone was soft on the inside with a little sugary crunch on the outside.  The COFFEE CAKE was incredible.  It didn’t look fancy but the moment I bit into it, I knew it was special.  Tasting like it just finished cooling out of the oven, it was moist with that amazing crunch from cinnamon and sugar crumbles.  This is a definite must at Calliope.  Head toCalliope now before everyone else starts finding out about this new gem.  Lovely brunch on a cool and sunny Saturday.  Bon appetit!
