We love cookies, which means we are pretty picky when it comes to them, and Downtown Cookie Co has impressed us. Dan Guerrera started this company in 2008 with the love of baking cookies from his grandmother…our first star of approval. (You can never go wrong with grandma’s recipes) He had a hard time finding the cookies he loved growing up with his family here in NYC so he decided in the kitchen and bake them himself. Dan, we are so happy you did! We sampled all the flavors of their cookies, including the October and November cookies of the month: Candy Corn bites and Stuffing (yes, like at Thanksgiving). The candy corn cookies looked identical to the candy, but SO much better! The soft and colorful shortbread was so buttery that each bite melts in your mouth. Piled high in a bag and mixed with actual candy corn candy, they are deliciously festive. The stuffing cookie took us pleasantly by surprise! Never before have we tasted a cookie made with Pepperidge Farm® Herb Seasoned Stuffing (no poultry), this was definitely a first! The cookie ends up being very thick and chewy with a sweet and very savory taste. They are a new and very inventive way to enjoy the classic Thanksgiving dish.
The staple flavor menu at Downtown Cookie Co. consists of Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Chip, Jane Street Jam, Oatmeal Raisin, Peanut Butter, and Ginger. They were ALL CRAZY GOOD!!! Every cookie was the perfect size, really thick, and baked to have a too good to be true chewy center. One of the cookies, the Jane Street Jam, is named after Downtown Cookie Company’s favorite streets in the West Village, Jane Street. This cookie is a super soft shortbread cookie that is covered in chopped almond flakes with a sweet raspberry jam center. Dan’s shortbread tastes like an ultimate combo of the best sugar cookie and the best shortbread cookie! We could have eaten a dozen of these cookies by ourselves! They are irresistible, we found ourselves craving more Jane Street Jam! Another standout was the ginger cookie! It had an excellent balance of molasses to ginger flavor and was uber chewy and soft on the inside. The perfect cookie for the holiday season!
We highly recommend Downtown Cookie Co. for any and all occasions! You simply cannot go wrong with any flavor so just order them all! We are now HUGE fans of this Brooklyn cookie company! Thank you Dan for all your amazing cookies!
