A “sweet” surprise of delicious baked goods!
Sometimes getting stuck in a storm can bring you unexpected sunshine in another place. On a trip to the Smorgasburg in Williamsburg, the rain stopped all the festivities right as I got there, and I had to take shelter in a hip and rustic coffee shop, Sweetleaf. I’m a coffee fanatic so I was excited to try this seemingly delicious coffee. What I was surprised by was the selection of baked goods. I enjoyed a Whole Wheat Cranberry Orange Muffin and Walnut Pepper Pear Goat Cheese Scone. I’m a huge fan of citrus in baked goods and this muffin did not disappoint. My favorite part, the top, was HUGE and full of sweet flavor. The cranberries were plentiful, and it’s freshness was apparent by how fluffy and moist it was. The scone was a giant surprise, especially since the ingredients were out of the ordinary. The pepper worked though and with the goat cheese, balanced the sweet and buttery scone. Who knew I would like pepper, goat cheese, and pears together?! The scone was dense and baked to perfection. Leave it to a cool coffee house in Brooklyn to open my taste buds up to a new experience. I guess “Brooklyn showers bring sweet flours!” These baked goods with my cappuccino were perfection.
