Schmakary’s
The Theatre District finally has another good dessert spot. It was Amy’s Bread ruling the area, but Schmakary’s has come along and is packing their house with “Cookie Monsters,” what the owner, Zachary Schmahl, calls his cookie loving customers. Well, I’m now a cookie monster (although I think I always have been). Schmakary’s is Zachary’s nickname from his school days. What better name than from when you were a kid since this place makes you feel like a kid! I tried the Key Lime and Maple Bacon cookies. I’m a huge fan of citrus in cookies and cakes. Something about the butter with a tart taste is mouth-watering. The Key Lime tasted like the classic pie but with a thick crust. It was iced with sweetness and chock-full of flavor. The Maple Bacon was SO CHEWY and sweet. There wasn’t a ton of bacon which made me happy. I’m not a huge fan of bacon in desserts. I liked this cookie though. The maple flavor was strong and sweet to balance out the bacon chunks. This place is really popular and creative. I will be back to try their bars and other cookies soon!
