J. A. Moisan, The oldest grocery in North America
On a recent trip to Quebec City, I was made aware of the oldest grocery in North America, J. A. Moisan. First of all, it was pretty cool to gander in this famous store where you could first purchase multiple items at once instead of, say, go from the baker to the butcher. The ambience in the place took me back to the 19th century. They had a fabulous dessert nook full of a plethora of chocolate. Candy and sweets I’d never heard of and I’m sure only sold at gourmet stores as J. A. Moisan. This seems right since the store, founded in 1871, prides itself on selling import goods you can’t find anywhere else. The city calls the grocery a gem of the city that takes you back to the “good old days.” You can tell by the adorable old exterior that it’s something special. Stop in on your next trip and enjoy some of the finest chocolate in the world, or stay at their bed and breakfast!
