The Donut Stop, St. Louis

If you have to pick someone up at the St. Louis airport at 8 am on a Saturday, the best thing to do is stop and get FRESH donuts out of the oven at The Donut Stop.  That’s exactly what I did this past Saturday, and believe me, mom mom, sister, and husband had no problem with that decision.  This tiny “mom-and-pop” donut place is no frills and carries your classic donuts, BUT, fresh out of the oven, they are nothing to be messed with.  The classic glaze was perfection.  Think Krispy Kreme but a little more dough and chewiness.  Wow, it’s been a while since I’ve had a donut this fresh and warm.  The cinnamon twist was the same texture.  The blueberry fritter was ridiculous.  This monster was sugar and butter with a crisp outer layer and incredibly moist center.  Their cake donuts didn’t disappoint either.  The iced orange cake donuts reminded me of an orange roll I used to get at my local bakery in Ohio.  Folks, it’s worth getting up early to grab a box of these morning treats.  At $9.80 for the entire box, your pockets won’t be empty either.
