Only in LA…Sprinkles does ice cream!

I finally made a visit to Sprinkles Ice Cream!  Was it worth the almost forty minute wait?  YES!  I quickly devised a plan for my dessert gorge while waiting in line.  I knew I had to try their signature Red Velvet Cake waffle cone and a cupcake ice cream sundae was a MUST.   Sprinkles cupcakes are alone mouth-watering, so adding a scoop of homemade ice cream sounded just too good to be true.  After much debate, I decided to order a red velvet cupcake with red velvet ice cream and a side of red velvet waffle cone.  I wanted to stick with a theme!  My girlfriend, thank goodness she was there to assist in all these calories, ordered a vanilla cupcake with Captain Crunch ice cream.  The cupcake sundaes are served in a pint sized container. The bottom half of the cupcake is in the bottom, the scoop of ice cream is in the middle, and the top of the cupcake is perfectly placed on top.  I loved digging into my cupcake topper and grabbing a little ice cream with each bite.  By the time I got to the bottom, the ice cream had melted into the cake, soaking up all the creamy goodness.  Both ice cream flavors were unique and delicious:  the red velvet had pieces of cake and swirls of cream cheese mixed throughout while the Captain Crunch base tasted just like the milk at the bottom of your cereal bowl with a generous amount Captain Crunch cereal pieces in the scoop.  Putting ice cream with a bit of cake isn’t out of the ordinary, but something about the idea of a cupcake sandwiching homemade ice cream in a cute cup gets me extra giddy!  Because I simply couldn’t leave Sprinkles without trying the red velvet waffle cone, I ordered one on the side and ate bits of my ice cream with it.  Red velvet cake ice cream inside a Red Velvet Cake cone is seriously a dream come true for me.  The cone had just a hint of flavor, more so than a standard waffle cone, and was a dark shade of red.  It was really tasty even on its own without any ice cream.  Even though the line at Sprinkles is long, I would wait time and time again.  With desserts this good, it’s true what they say…”Good things come to those who wait!”
