Mille-Feuille in Quebec City

Paillard seems to be the popular place to go for some lunch or a pastry in Quebec City, especially since it’s located on the busy Rue Saint-Jean.  My Canadian friend said a Mille-Fueille (or Napoleon) is a must while visiting Quebec, so I ordered the classic dessert.  Traditionally this dessert is made up of three puff pastry layers and two layers of pastry cream.  Pastry cream is custard to us:  milk, cream, and egg yolk.  This French pastry was delicious and SWEET!  It was slightly cold and the cream was thick.  This was heaven when mixed with the light and flakey puffy pastry.  The top layer was white and milk chocolate combed in a fondant style.  It was so beautiful that I had a hard time destroying it as I dug in.  If you like cream and crust, this dessert is for you.  C’est bon!
