Stone Fruit Cobbler!
The Ponte Winery restaurant in Temecula, CA is rated in the top 50 outside dining in the United States and rightfully so, with gorgeous views overlooking the vineyards. It’s so peaceful, you simply don’t ever want to leave. On the dessert menu was a Stone Fruit Cobbler that sounded not only refreshing, but unique. Stone fruits, if you don’t know, are the fruits that have a pit in their center (think peaches, plums, and nectarines). This cobbler had slices of each stone fruit all swimming in their own sugary syrups. Polenta cake made up the cobbler bits that were crumbled on top of the fruit with a small scoop of pistachio gelato laying in the center, melting into the cake and fruit. My favorite part happened to be the actual salty pistachios that were sprinkled on top. When scooped up in a bite, they added a burst of flavor and crunch against the sugary fruit. This cobbler was heavier on the fruit side rather than the cobbler. I would have liked to enjoy more of the polenta cake crumble. It was delish! But, after a large lunch this dessert cleansed my palate and fulfilled my craving, without leaving me feeling stuffed. It was the perfect ending to a delightful meal.
