Hungarian Strudel

Well I’m about to head for some dessert adventure in St. Louis, MO where I will be doing a show playing a Hungarian.  What do I first think about doing while prepping for this role?!  Why, eating some Hungarian food and dessert of course!  I Yelped to find the best bet for the cuisine in NYC and came upon Andre’s Cafe & Eorpean Bakery on the UES.  The little restaurant was adorable with memorabilia from Hungary decorating every inch of the walls.  I felt like I was actually in Hungary!  After a delicious meal of a classic dish, Chicken Paprikesh, I asked the native Hungarian serving us what their most popular dessert was, and she highly recommended one of their strudels.  I chose the Cherry Cheese Strudel.  It came out beautifully displayed on a plate and WARM.  It was also served with a fork and steak knife to cut through the thick and flakey dough.  Remek! Pompás! (Wow!).  It was incredible!  I’ve never had a strudel this high quality anywhere.  The warm cheese and cherries oozed out of the crust encasing it.  It was light and fulfilling.  I highly recommend a stop here for this dessert.  For a taste of culture and good food, Andres is a great option.  Ízletes (delicious!)!
