A very large Apple Cobbler to die for!
The Tractor Room in San Diego is known for its hearty portions. You better come here HUNGRY! When our waiter told us that Apple Cobbler was on the dessert menu, I was overwhelmed with glee. Apple Cobbler just reminds me of summer: the classic all-American dessert. On the bottom of its very own iron skillet were sliced apples perfectly cooked to that soft, yet still crunchy texture. There must have been at least three apples cut up inmy bowl, swimming in a sweet cinnamon/sugar juice that kept them nice and well… juicy! Covering all those apples was the cobbler, which was made up of cakey brown sugar bites. There was such a copious amount that, even at my last bit,e I still had bits of cobbler in the bowl. Sitting on top of that was a mountain of vanilla bean ice cream. Restaurants never seem to get the ice cream to cobbler ratio right, but this was NOT the case here. The mountain of vanilla bean was one that I slowly conquered as it melted into the steaming apples. The hot apples, crunchy cobbler, and cold, creamy ice cream made this dessert perfection. As if that was not enough, a tiny iron skillet sat on the side of the plate filled with homemade caramel sauce. I dipped my bites in it and poured spoonfuls of it on the ice cream. Either way I was in heaven. The caramel was warm and thin enough to fall gracefully over the cool ice cream. It’s embarrassing to say, because this dessert was large enough for two, but I ate the whole thing AND was scrapping bits of cobbler and caramel off the green napkin that both skillets were sitting on. I didn’t want a bite to go to waste. Needless to say I was at the gym first thing in the morning!
