A Mud Pie that hit “The Spot!”

Yep! That’s my Mud Pie I ordered at The Spot in La Jolla, California!! How could I resist a chocolate cookie crust with a coffee ice cream filling, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce to top it all off? I simply could not. The Spot is a great restaurant/bar that is one of the places to eat late night in La Jolla. This dessert was the perfect way to end my day at the beach. The coffee ice cream was refreshing, smooth, and creamy, just like a Frappuccino from Starbucks. In fact, this whole pie tasted just like a Venti Chocolate Cookie Crumble Frappaccino! The thick layer of cookie crust was nice and crumbly, yet provided a solid base for all the ice cream. There was also chopped walnuts mixed into the ice cream which added salty crunch with each bite. FYI…Mud Pie is different from Mississippi Mud Pie. Mississippi Mud Pie is a dense chocolate cake with a chocolate cookie topping served with ice cream. It got it’s name due to the resemblance that the dark gooey cake has to the aesthetics of the mud found in the famous river. Regular Mud Pie was named because of it’s resemblance to the way mud in general looks. Either way, either name, I like MUD!
