The Ice Cream Bar!

The Ice Cream Bar is located in Cole Valley in San Francisco.  Walking through the bright red door you are immediately transported back to the 1950s.  The old school menu keeps things simple: sundaes, cones, milkshakes, malts, and cookies.  It’s when you see the variety of ice creams that it becomes hard to decide on what to order.  Just when I secured my plan to order a brownie sundae a new batch of buttery butterscotch was put into the display case.  I was there 15 minutes to closing and they were just putting in a new batch?!?!   Before I even tasted anything I knew this was my type of bar.  After seeing the fresh ice cream that had wide swirls of butterscotch all over the top, my order quickly changed to the “make your own sundae” option.  I decided on two scoops of the butterscotch and one scoop of banana pudding topped with butterscotch sauce, marshmallow fluff, and a homemade chocolate chip cookie.  As I watched my sundae get “created” I was especially surprised to see a mini torch brought out to give a little roast to my mallows!  This place just keeps getting better and better.  My sundae just went up a couple notches in my book, I couldn’t wait to dig in!  The two ice creams were extremely creamy and rich.  The banana pudding had pieces of cake and a fresh banana taste.  The butterscotch was sweet but rich and oh so gooey while the marshmallow fluff was cloud-like and fluffy.  The warm toppings melted the ice creams just enough to make an ice cream soup in my bowl.  My chocolate chip cookie was thin with slabs of chocolate that was baked just right so that it remained chewy on the inside with crispy outer edges.  The Ice Cream Bar exceeded my expectations in every way and I highly recommend this bar if you are ever in the bay area!
