Bender’s Tavern in Canton, Ohio
Bender’s Tavern is the oldest and finest restaurant in Canton, Ohio. I had been there years ago, but made a recent trip back to indulge in their famous chocolate peanut butter sundae! The mini sundae is served in a small shot glass. On the bottom is their famous chocolate peanut butter sauce which is thick like caramel, but smooth and creamy like peanut butter. There is a layer on the bottom and a
huge dollop on top with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream in between. Sounds simple right? Well, yes it is, but this simplicity equals perfection! This chocolate peanut butter sauce is heaven. I could eat it alone with a spoon for dessert. I have NEVER tasted a peanut butter sauce like it before. It’s not overwhelmingly sweet either, just a perfect balance of chocolate and peanut butter. A balance that makes you want more and more and more.
We also ordered their Banana Walnut Bread Pudding. This pudding tasted like a stack of fresh, hot french toast piled high on a plate with butter and syrup. It was super chewy, fluffy, and moist with chunks of walnut adding texture and crunch. There was a large amount of caramel sauce drizzled over the slice, only adding to the temptation in every bite. It warmed my tummy each time the spoon left my mouth. I could not get enough of this bread pudding.
Bender’s Tavern certainly did not let me down in the dessert department. If you are near Canton it is a must stop, especially for dessert!
