Steve’s Ice Cream
I have found the closest ice cream to Jeni’s here in NYC! This is a huge compliment to Steve’s Ice Cream since there are only a handful of ice cream companies that are this creative with their flavors. As I continue to eat sweets and other various foods, I find myself only wanting artisinal products because, well, they’re just plain better and made with more love than highly processed mass produce. Steve’s lies in the artisinal category, especially since they’ve moved from Bryant Park to the ever popular Brooklyn, the mecca of hip and homemade. I picked up their Blackeberry Honey flavor at Whole Foods (I love that you can get it there too!) and devoured the deliciousness. It was so soft and creamy. My spoon easily slid in and got a huge chunk of blackberry and honey flavor. I loved how I could really distinguish between the two flavors. The color was beautiful as well. Steve started his company in 1973, pioneered by it’s owner and then college student. I’m glad its stayed around and I can get ice cream with mix ins that resemble more of something from a farm than a machine. With minimal ingredients in the ice cream base, I feel good about putting it in to my body. For dairy-free folks, they make coconut creme and sorbet as well. I can’t wait to get ahold of another flavor!
