Carrot Cake Donut at Doughnut Plant

It’s embarrassing to say, but I had never been to Doughnut Plant before this recent visit.  My only excuse is that I don’t typically crave donuts like I do other sweets so it’s a rare occasion that I want one.  However, walking by their newest outpost the other day something came over me, a voice that said, “This is the day! You should try Doughnut Plant!”  Ok, that didn’t happen, but for some reason, that day, I wanted donuts! Walking into the “plant,” which really feels like you are in a donut factory, I was overwhelmed with options.  I finally decided on the Carrot Cake Donut because it was filled with cream cheese frosting.  Since I LOVE Carrot Cake, how could I go wrong with it in fried dough form, right?   A cake donut, lightly fried, and covered in frosting with sprinkles of carrot flecks and spices, tasted exactly like my favorite piece of cake.  THE BEST PART though was definitely the cream cheese center – thickly filling the inside of the donut.  Every bite exploded with sweet frosting, making this sugar fried dough even more sugary!  This is not for the faint of heart.  This donut is SWEET!  It actually took me about a half hour to eat it because I needed sugar breaks. Doughnut Plant makes dessert friendly donuts, which are more up my alley than the typical glazed.  They have many different creations, which are exactly that…creations.  Worth the trip, worth the price, and worth the calories!
