Spot Dessert Bar’s New Menu and Chef!
I recently attended an evening of dessert tasting at Spot Dessert Bar in the East Village. It was a night of hosting samples from their new world-renowned chef, Ian Chalermkittichai. I was lucky to meet the jovial chef during my visit and complimented him on his delectable creations. On the menu (and yes, I tasted them ALL)were:
- A Chocolate Green Tea Lava Cake made with dark chocolate and green tea ganache. The chocolate flavor, accompanied by a hint of green tea, prevailed as a clear winning combination for my taste buds.
- A Yuzu Crepe Cake with alternating layers of yuzu cream and crepe. This was light and creamy. The meringue and citrus garnishes added a nice touch in look and flavor.
- The Smoked Coconut Cheesecake was really nice with an Oreo-like crust. It was smooth and thick with a citrus foam on top. The white chocolate shavings were plentiful and, get this - the cream cheese was smoked with a complex Thai aromatic candle!
- A Thai Tea Creme Brulee and Green Tea Tiramisu. Both were delightful, light, and perfectly sweetened.
- Cupcakes! Macaroons! OH MY! The creativity and exotic flavors excited my palette and had I any more room, I would have eaten every last one! (I recommend the bacon and date cupcake – it tasted like a delicious pancake breakfast in a teeny bite-sized portion!)
Spot Dessert Bar has some serious happening desserts. It has a cool, relaxed vibe - perfect for hanging out with friends and sharing some delectable treats. Nestled downstairs on St. Marks Place, Spot is the place to be for dessert lovers!
