Smurf Cupcake at Baked & Wired
Baked & Wired, my favorite coffee and dessert shop in Washington, DC, had a very special cupcake of the day. Called “Smurf,” it consisted of a spongey vanilla cake filled with juicy blueberries that explode in your mouth! It was iced with a lemon buttercream that was thick and tangy! I couldn’t get over how fresh and delicious this cupcake was. The juice from the berries swirled a blue ribbon through the moist cake. Still a little warm from the oven, it sort of tasted like a blueberry muffin. Then the lemon buttercream added a sour kick to the fruity sweetness. This little cupcake had a very powerful punch. I loved that they named this flavor, “Smurf,” because it brought back childhood memories of watching the cartoon on Saturday mornings. It’s too bad I didn’t have this cupcake to go along with it! My Stumptown Coffee Latte was a perfect pairing.
