This is my kind of slice!

Sometimes there is nothing like a homemade pie.  At Just Pies in Columbus, Ohio, that is exactly what you get, fresh homemade pie.  They are a family owned and operated business with over 25 varieties of pies made fresh every morning. I was lucky enough to try three different kinds since my mom had picked them up for Christmas dinner.  I tried blueberry, cherry, and custard.  Honestly, I thought they were made by my mom. The freshness was extremely apparent from the berries to the soft flaky crusts. They only use IQF (Individually Quick Frozen) fruit for their fruit pies.  This means they are picked and frozen right away to ensure freshness.  No canned products in this bakery!  The fruit fillings of the blueberry and cherry pies were not too sweet, which was nice.  I could taste the delicious tartness of the cherries and the flavor of the blueberries perfectly. I actually appreciated no sugar on the crust as well.  Sometimes sugar is sprinkled on top of the crust, and I always feel like that’s overkill.  I like to taste the raw flavors of just the filling and crust, and that’s exactly what I was able to do.  Their crust is simply made with flour, a touch of sugar, and lard. The custard was no disappointment either.  It sliced so easily and had that perfect creamy bounce to it. Custard is so divine and delicate, and I love eating it in a pie with crust.  The combination of cream and egg yolk makes a lovely and mildly sweet taste.  This custard pie was all of this and more. Simple yet effective to the palate.  Just Pies is Just for Me!
