Butterfly Bakeshop

You can’t help  to stop in front of the display cases of Butterfly Bakeshop.  Their mini layer cakes are beautiful and the custom cakes on display are stunning!  So, what to choose?  Vanilla with Pumpkin Spice Buttercream?  Chocolate Nutella?  Simple, yet always a crowd pleaser, Vanilla Vanilla?  A special seasonal Red Velvet Cake with Pecan Cream Cheese Buttercream caught my attention.   We couldn’t resist!  Placed on top each cake is their signature fondant butterfly, adding an elegant touch to each cake.  Butterfly keeps their cakes refrigerated, but serves them at room temperature.  The mini Red Velvet we bought had been out since 9:30am, so it a was perfect temperature.  Butterfly makes sure to serve you according to when you are indulging in your dessert.  Cold cake leaves buttercream too stiff, in our opinion, and the cake seems dry and dense.  At room temp, the softened buttercream seems to melt in your mouth and the cake remains fluffy and light.   YUMMY!  This layer cake was delicious.  We loved the added pecans to the cream cheese buttercream, giving it a crunch to every bite.  Pecans ranging in size were thoroughly mixed into the frosting.  The cake was fluffy, yet had that density from the buttermilk ingredient that goes into making red velvet.  We had to stop ourselves from eating the whole thing.  Every time we vowed our last bites, we took one more.  Butterfly is famous for their custom cakes.  You can create your own or choose from their designs.  A plump pumpkin cake looked perfect displayed at the counter.  It’s bight orange color and 3D shape was enticing.  How cute would it be on your Thanksgiving dinner table?  Forget Pumpkin Pie, have Pumpkin Cake!  Butterfly also bakes cookies so we tried the Coconut Lime and Oatmeal Craisin.  The Coconut Lime taste was really different and reminded us of eating a bowl of Fruity Pebbles.  Something about the lime flavor and the coconut coming together brought us back to that distinct breakfast cereal.  The Oatmeal Craisin was also fantastic, crunchy outside with a chewy inside.  It had that real homemade taste, like your grandma made them for you.  To use Craisins instead of Raisins added a holiday touch and a bit of extra sweetness.  We actually enjoyed the Craisin addition better than its traditional counterpart.    Butterfly is located inside Limelight Marketplace or you can order online.
