To begin our dessert tasting, three shot glasses arrived with miniature lemon meringue pies “in a glass.” The snow capped dessert had a perfectly toasted top and was delicately sprinkled with gold glitter!  We are big fans of how Zac “bedazzles” his desserts.  They were beautiful.  This “amuse bouche” dessert cleansed our palates, leaving us wanting more!

The Original Deep Fried Whoopie Pie!

WHOOPIE!!!  Three cheers to Zac Young for creating one of the best desserts we’ve ever had (and we don’t say that lightly)!  This Whoopie pie is like no other and is the King of Whoopie pies!  Dark chocolate cake sandwiches cream cheese frosting, which then is covered in Panko bread crumbs and fried.  Yes, I said FRIED!  The result is incredible…inconceivable!   When you cut into the huge circular disk, warm cream cheese frosting comes exploding out, oozing onto the plate.  The chocolate cake has an under baked consistency, making it ultra moist and fudgey!  The Panko edge keeps the pie intact while you’re indulging. It is light and crispy, just adding enough texture against the cake and frosting.  It all sits on a bed of caramel sauce with caramelized white chocolate cream (acting like a thickened whipped cream) in a lovely design beside it.  To sweeten the load even more, a dollop of espresso ice cream is perfectly scooped on top of the cream and little chocolate covered espresso balls are sprinkled around.  Do you see why this is one of the best desserts we have ever had?!!  It’s the dream team of desserts: chocolate cake, cream cheese frosting, “friedness”, caramel, whipped cream and ice cream!!!  You need one…you must go have one!  It’s too important in life NOT to try a deep fried Whoopie pie!!  We will have dreams of fried Whoopie pies dancing in our heads until the day we are back at Flex Mussels with Zac Young at the helm!

FLEX DONUTS

These were our second dessert choice off the menu, and we tried every single flavor they offered!  We were expecting little tiny donut holes, but these were not small, they were fabulously large!  there was no skimping out on size here!  They were wild blueberry, PB&J, meyer lemon, chocolate, praline, cinnamon sugar, salted caramel, and fluffernutter.  There are no words for this kind of donut experience.  Really. They were so fresh, cake-like, and soft.  They were dusted with sugar and then the insides filled with a scrumptious treat.  The wild blueberry just oozed out of the donut the minute we cut it.  The PB&J tasted like the best sandwich you’ve you’ve had.  The meyer lemon was refreshing and tangy.  The chocolate was rich and dipped in the vanilla cream, it was like a black and white cookie version of a donut! The praline was sweet and creamy, and the caramel soaked in the dough.  Another donut was covered in cinnamon and sugar, and tasted like cinnamon sugar toast (you know the version of toast, butter, and C&S you might make at home).  The salted caramel was crazy good.  That sweet-salty flavor is always a killer. The fluffernutter was so fun and creative!  Who doesn’t like PB and marshmallow fluff stuffed in a fresh donut??? All of the above were incredible, and when dipped in the vanilla sauce, they were divine.  The ULTIMATE donut experience!  We have already added Flex Mussels to our list of “regular spots” to go for dessert.  It’s just too good not to go a million times.  Thanks Zac for an evening we’ll never forget!

We couldn’t help putting a photo of our finished plates of dessert!
