Coconut Crusted Pie

Located on Melrose Ave is this delicious organic cafe serving wonderful desserts.   We, Blondie and Brownie, were lucky enough to be together on the west coast having lunch and could not resist the Coconut Crusted Pie we saw while waiting in line to order.   The size, height, and thickness of the crust immediately caught our attention.  We both had never seen such a decadent version of coconut cream pie before.  It was the one dessert in the case that we knew we couldn’t pass up!

The crust was at least a half inch thick with a nutty oat texture.  We both expected a hard and crunchy crust, but instead bit into a soft, oatmeal cookie consistency.  What a wonderful surprise!  The softness complimented the light, fluffy, and sweet pudding inside.  The coconut pudding was filled with shredded coconut shavings  and hints of vanilla.  It was not topped with traditional merinque topping, but instead served with a side of whipped cream.   So the entire pie was coconut pudding, slightly toasted on the top!  It might look indulgent and heavy, yet in actuallity it was pleasantly fulfilling!  Urth Cafe has a variety of desserts from cookies to cakes and pies.  After trying the Coconut Crusted Pie, we know why it’s such a Hollywood hot spot!  Maybe that’s why the popular HBO show, Entourage, frequently films there!  xoxo Blondie and Brownie
