OK, so just listen to this description from the menu of Roy’s, a Hawaiian fusion restaurant: ”Roy’s Melting Hot Chocolate Souffle.” Ummmm, I don’t know if I even have to explain how good it was…BUT I will:-). Located in the Marriott Hotel in Downtown San Diego, Roy’s restaurant sits right on the coast with a beautiful view of the San Diego Bay (there are many other locations throughout the country). When you order your dinner, you must order the souffle cake then due to how long it takes to prepare. Boy is this dessert popular cause they specifically ask if you would like to order it. YES PLEASE! This flourless chocolate cake with a molten center served a la mode is the best souffle cake I’ve ever tasted. How they prepare so many, so perfectly, is impressive. The warm and soft cake on the outside and that burst of hot chocolate oozing out when you dig in is just perfect. Delicious. The side of vanilla ice cream compliments so well, and if you’d like some berry compote, it’s a nice accompaniment. WOW. WOW. WOW. Don’t miss this dessert after enjoying a meal there!
Recommended by a friend, I also tried the Pineapple Up-Side-Down Cake. This would not be my first choice for dessert, but I was actually blown away. It was a warm pineapple tart. The soft and juicy cake was covered in a chunky pineapple compote. Not too heavy, this scrumptious treat defined the “Hawaiian Fusion” aspect of the restaurant for me. With a side of vanilla ice cream, it was similar to an apple cobbler type dessert, yet the pineapples make it very tropical and summery. YUM! xoxoBrownie
