Ghirardelli Chocolate Shop in Chicago, IL

Brownie and I met on the 1st National Tour of 42nd Street many desserts ago!  But, one might say that we bonded on that tour  in Chicago at Ghirardelli Chocolate Shop!  You can’t miss it, sparkling white light bulbs trim the sign and store and it’s located right off of Michigan Ave!!!  Inside, the walls are lined with their famous chocolates and then they have a 1950s soda fountain where the sundaes are created!  It’s absolutely adorable and definitely screamed “Blondie and Brownie!”  We probably went there once a week to have our fill of sweets.  So, being back in Chicago, I knew I had to pay homage to Ghirardelli.  I got the cookie sundae which consisted of a warmed chocolate chip cookie, two scoops of vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream, almonds, and of course a cherry.  I added…warm peanut butter sauce and changed the ice cream to cookies and cream and chocolate chip cookie dough.  Let’s face it, go BIG or go HOME!  The real whipped cream was the perfect topper along with the crunch from the chopped almonds!  Huge chunks of cookie dough graced every bite of the chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream.  The hot fudge was brilliantly thick and rich; mixed with the warm peanut butter sauce it tasted like a Reeses Cup!  The cookies and cream scoop looked swirled with cookies because there were so many.  Then right at the bottom lied the warmed chocolate chip cookie.  These cookies are colossal!!!  About 4″ in diameter and 3″thick, crispy on the outside with under baked chewy goodness on the inside!!!!!  From sitting at the bottom of the bowl, the cookie was soaked with melted ice cream and saturated with hot fudge!!!!!  IT WAS INCREDIBLE!  I ate every last bite and scrapped all the sauce from the edges!  I simply could not get enough!  I was glad to see that after all these years, our ice cream parlor is still delicious!  It was nice to revisit and to remember bonding with Brownie!  xoxoBlondie
