Quality Meats = Quality Desserts

Quality Meats is a fantastic steakhouse located on 58th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues.  One thing I love about steakhouses is that you can always count on good desserts, and QM certainly fits the bill.  I was sitting at the bar last night enjoying wine and conversation with friends.  QM has a great bar!  It’s right under street level, so it’s dark and intimate, with cozy  leather couches surrounding the white marble bar top.  Well, to my surprise, the Executive Pastry Chef came up to the bar, so I introduced myself!!! His name is Cory Colton and he couldn’t be more charming, humble, and generous. I couldn’t help but tell Cory how much I LOVE the desserts at QM, especially the homemade ice cream.  He is an ice cream lover himself, he told me, and is always thinking of new and inventive creations.  He explained that in the summer months he tries to keep flavors lighter and more refreshing.  He realizes that after a big steak dinner, diners need something sweet, but not too overwhelming.  The “dressed up scoops” at QM are just the perfect size.  It is one big scoop, but always a little something else to go with it. Cory suggested I try the green tea, coconut, with roasted macadamia nut ice cream and the pomegranate, raspberry, with hibiscus sorbet.  The ice cream was absolutely perfect!  Sometimes I find that green tea flavored desserts taste like powder or are a bit bitter, but this was sweet from the coconut and not overpowering at all. Under the scoop was a macadamia nut cake and on top was a nut brittle.  With the green tea and nut combo, I couldn’t help but think that this ice cream was sort of healthy! Cory’s homemade ice creams are probably some of the creamiest I have ever had. They have a thick texture and linger in your mouth as they melt.  Every flavor blows my mind!  The sorbet was equally delicious and VERY refreshing.  It was like summer in a sorbet.  Surrounded by fresh berries in a sweet syrup, the sorbet held strong.   On top was a sugary brittle that was just enough to compliment the sorbet. Check out the QM website to learn more about Cory Colton and definitely go to Quality Meats!  http://qualitymeatsnyc.com/cory_colton.htm
