Dessert-Packed Weekend in Los Angeles

Last weekend I was in LA for my Mother-In-Law’s birthday. So, of course I had to go to a few places I have been hearing about. I packed a lot of desserts in in three days…thank God the NYSC was waiting for me back in NYC!

One of my first stops was Yummy Cupcakes in Santa Monica. After shopping around the Promenade, I needed a pick me up. My friend Katie, who also LOVES desserts, was with me so we were able to try two cupcakes! I loved the many flavors Yummy Cupcakes had to offer. From Apple Pie, Chocolate Coconut, Brown Sugar, you name it…they’re bakin’ it! We tried the Brown Sugar with Cream Cheese Frosting and the Fudgey Honey. Baked fresh everyday and only with wholesome ingredients, you can tell these cupcakes are made with love. The Brown Sugar cake was almost identical to a coffee cake with a cinnamon swirl and a crunchy top. The cream cheese frosting was a perfect match and an excellent consistency. It was a wonderful afternoon cupcake! The Fudgey Honey (I think that was the name) was an extremely moist chocolate cake, filled with chocolate, frosting with a whipped chocolate buttercream, and covered in chocolate sprinkles!!!! This is a chocolate lovers DREAM!! I think the filling inside the cupcake contributed to its moistness. You could definitely tell it was just made.

The next night I headed to Milk. WOW! Milk has sundaes, milkshakes, cookies, cakes, pastries…everything! Luckily I was in a big group so we ordered A LOT! The first up was the Blue Velvet Cake. That’s right, it’s just like Red Velvet, but BLUE. I had to try it seeing that I love the original. I ordered an extra side of frosting just in case there wasn’t enough on the slice. The cake itself tasted exactly the same, as did the cream cheese frosting. What was different was frozen blueberries mixed into the frosting layers and a chocolate covered blueberry on top. In my opinion they should name it Blueberry Velvet Cake to make it stand out more. I LOVED the blueberry addition and there was totally enough frosting… so I used that to frost my cookies!!! Cookies…we had the chocolate chip and snickerdoodle. The snickerdoodle was absolute perfection. It was crunchy on the outside and oh so chewy inside. Thick, sweet, and dusted with cinnamon this cookie was even more delicious dipped in the frosting. The chocolate chip was also fantastic. Nice size, good thickness, and lots of chocolate!! We were two for two!

Next up was the Milky Way Milkshake. “Milk” did a play on words here because it ended up being a malted milk ball milkshake, instead of the candy bar Milky Way. I am not a huge fan of Whopper candies, of which was a main ingredient in the shake, so this was not my favorite. (My husband picked the flavor, not me :)) However, this shake was very good. In no way did I not enjoy drinking it. It was very rich and blended with many malt balls! Every sip had pieces of candy in it. The glass is swirled with chocolate sauce before the shake is poured in and then topped with real whipped cream and more sauce! My brother in law swears by the Triple Chocolate Shake here, so if I get back here I will have to try it! Milk Bar is a MUST STOP if you are in LALA land!

Last but NOT least…the OOEY GOOEY COOKIE SUNDAE! Ladies and Gentleman this sundae was brilliant. The ooey gooey cookie is a Milk speciality…double chocolate chip with an inbetween brownie and cookie density. They were out of the coconut gelato that normally comes in the sundae so we opted for Banana Dolce De Leche. The gelato blew our minds. Each bite tasted like you were eating a whole banana split. The flavors exploded in our mouths. The cookies were cake like and gooey, just like their name. Topped with the mound of whipped cream, this sundae was like a chocolate frozen banana popsicle. AMAZZZZING!!!!!

I had one more stop that I had to make it to…Millions of Milkshakes. I had never heard of this place until my friend Katie kindly filled me in. Honestly, just hearing the name I was sold! All of their speciality milkshakes here are named after their celebrity cliental. But, you can also choose between regular soft serve, frozen yogurt, or soy soft serve and a whole toppings bar with every kind of candy you know and don’t know. They also have a variety of sauces and fresh fruit! Ok, so what did Blondie choose? After debating for several minutes I decided to go with a speciality shake, the Miley Cyrus. Apparently Miley orders this creation…peanut butter cups, chocolate chip cookie dough, and whipped cream. Watching them make my shake, I was in AWE! Very generous portions of cookie dough and PB cups are dumped into the blender. Then they dispense the fro-yo in and start blending. No milk here folks. The result…and extra thick, you could eat this thing with a spoon, creamy, chock full of candy milkshake! They top it with whipped cream and a chocolate flake bar and on my way out I stop to add sprinkles at the sprinkle station. (Sidenote…Sprinkle station=GENIUS!) I am not a big fan of Miley, but I am a fan of her milkshake!!!
