When out to dinner with friends, I was pleasantly surprised by the “dolce” of the evening. I usually don’t have high expectations for desserts at Italian restaurants, so I felt the need to tell you about a particular one here. The Cioccolato is warm chocolate and almond cake served with vanilla cream sauce. I’m not a fan of chocolate almond cake so I opted just for vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce. My friend ordered the cake, and I’m very glad she did. It was actually just topped with shaved almonds instead of an almond flavor in the chocolate. It was so fudgey, like a chocolate molten cake. Seriously, this was amazingly rich and fabulous like a gooey brownie is right out of the oven. The shaved almonds added a nice contrast in texture without giving it too strong of an almond taste. My ice cream paired perfectly with the dessert, making it a spectacular finish to a wonderful Italian meal!
