Wow! Two ice cream lovers were trasformed today into gelato romantics!! Fitting for this Italian gelateria. We both have had the luxury of eating gelato in Rome, Italy, so we know how the real stuff tastes. The owners of L’Arte are both from Sicily and use only natural, fresh, and local ingredients or ones brought over from Italy. Made in small batches everyday, the gelato is NEVER freezed. In fact gelato is kept at a lower tempture than ice cream (5-10 degrees F) to ensure the soft texture. Because gelato is made with milk instead of cream, it has a lower fat content, therefore healthier for you. We imagine this is why Italians can eat it everyday.
Today we met Vivianne, an employee at L’Arte, who was very helpful in our experience there. She was extremely gracious in letting us sample many of the flavors. Their flavor of the month, which spotlights the best ingredient or recipe of that month, was Eggnog. It was delectable and tasted just like the seasonal beverage. We both ordered gelato in their homemade waffle cones. Blondie had pistachio and stracciatella (milk chocolate chip) with a dollop of sesame. Brownie enjoyed panna cotta and pumkin topped with cinnamon. We were utterly astounded by the goodness! Even though there’s no cream in it, the gelato is incredibly creamy in taste. There is 75% less air in gelato than ice cream, which makes the flavor explode in your mouth! We honestly were in absolute heaven the entire time we ate this treat. The cones were the perfect crispness, but not too hard. We could tell they were fresh that day by the way they easily crumbled at each bite. This place should never be missed whether you’re a New Yorker or from out of town! Seriously!
