Smores Cupcake

Across the street from Chickalicious is the to-go version, Dessert Club. On the menu are many treats: cupcakes, cookies, soft serve, cakes, and puddings to name a few. The smores cupcake sounded too good to be true and with a marshmallow top, it was love at first sight! The cupcake in size was smaller than expected but big on taste. The cake was gingerbread with a chocolate ganache filling in the center. I am glad that the chocolate was there because the cupcake could have been boring without it. The cake itself was extremely moist and tasted like your mom’s homemade kind. The frosting was all mallow, roasted, maybe by a mini blowtorch. I really liked the “all mallow” topping because it brought out the smores campfire idea.
Dessert Club also serves up some amazing chocolate chip cookies. With a 3″ diameter, these chocolate chips were crunchy on the outside and completely chewy on the inside. It is a thin cookie with chocolate abounding…not chips but chunks. Thin slate chunks, if you can imagine. This cookie is perfect for dunking in milk and you get three for just $1.95!!!
After conversing with the owner, Don, I am determined to get back to Dessert Club to try the vanilla soft serve.  I have learned that the soft serve is cheaper than most soft serves in the city and twice the size.  It is served with real vanilla beans as a topping.  Because of these luxuries there are no samples allowed.  Clearly this soft serve is no Tasti-D!  I will be back Dessert Club!

    Dear Amanda,

    I cannot thank you enough for having given us a shot. I appreciate it more than you know.

    As you seemed to enjoy most of your visit, I would like a to address your dissatisfaction with our sample policy.

    You’ll find that, veritably, all places which provide samples, have a higher price point than ours. The cost is built into the sell price. Our policy is based on economics, only, no snobbery, I assure you. I simply can’t afford it. Our soft serve is already TWO DOLLARS CHEAPER than (and) TWICE THE SIZE of most anywhere else in Manhattan. In addition, should we be fortunate enough to have you try one, you’ll find a healthy portion of Vanilla Beans accompanying your serving. You can imagine the expense to me to provide this item at this price point. Were we looking to be snobby, we’d charge much, much more for a significantly reduced portion laden with vanilla extract and pass out samples like crazy. We simply wish to provide a quality product at an accesible price point for our guests.

    Thank you so much for checking out Justdessertsnyc. I truly appreciate you writing to me and explaining the sample situation. Now that I know why you don’t do samples, it intrigues me even more to come back and try this vanilla bean laden soft serve you speak of. I am an ice cream lover above all so I assure you I will be there. I only wish the night I was there that the gentleman would have given me your explanation on why you don’t do samples. I am sure after the explanation my taste buds would have been salivating enough to order it as well. I will have to bring Brownie back to try your soft serve. Thank you again for writing and caring enough to correct a misconception.
