J’adore Le Petit Belge! I truly believe one of the greatest things about New York is the many options we have in food. Having the ability to eat food from around the world is a luxury that I try to fulfill. I have always wanted to go to Belgium for the famous “Belgian Waffles” and now I have! Brownie and I were lucky to have a tasting here and man, waffles have NEVER tasted this good! Let me say that again…waffles have never tasted this good!! Right off Union Square is this tiny Belgian waffle house, serving huge waffle treats. Don’t make the mistake of thinking, “I get Belgian waffles at a diner all the time!” Oh no, you haven’t. Le Petit Belge serves authentic Belgian waffles that are made from dough, not batter, and flavored with vanilla and a little sugar. (You can order them without sugar as well for a diet friendly option). What I absolutely adore about Le Petit Belge is the many different options here. If you are in need of a tiny snack…grab a mini waffle dusted with powdered sugar. If you want something bite size but substantial…order the Belgian Poffy’s: unique mini pancakes served in a paper cone with your choice of toppings. (We had Poffy’s with dark chocolate, strawberries, and homemade whipped cream). Or, my favorite, the signature Belgian Waffle. We sampled the waffle topped with white chocolate and raspberries. The white chocolate was melted, but still thick and very creamy (all of their chocolate is homemade). It did not however ruin the crunchy outside or chewy inside of the waffle, which was very refreshing. Then it was topped with big, beautiful, and juicy raspberries! It was a waffle to be remembered!!!
Le Petit Belge has something for everyone. The topping choices for Poffy’s or the waffles range from chocolate, to fruit and granola, to sprinkles. So whether you are coming for breakfast or dessert, your appetite will be satisfied. Also on the menu is a full coffee bar, list of smoothies, macaroons, croissants, and Berrywild frozen yogurt.
The owners and staff are friendly, happy, and very helpful in assisting the many decisions to make. So stop by, grab a waffle, go sit in Union Square, and transport yourself to Belgium! I might have to make it a weekly trip!! xoxoBlondie
