After a fantastic French dinner in Brooklyn with friends, my goal was to finish the night with a sweet! We had tried to get in to this little Italian place called Al Di La for dinner, but the wait was too long. They do in fact have a wine bar around the corner that serves the same menu, and after glancing at someone’s dessert in the restaurant, I excitedly suggested we go to the wine bar for dessert! With no wait, we had the Italian dessert menu in our hands! The first thing that caught my eye was the Fridole which were fried ricotta pastries (think donut holes) dusted with powdered sugar, accompanied by whip cream and warm chocolate sauce! Man, these were goooood. The donuts were warm, spongey, and moist. They reminded me of beignets. Their gelato for the evening was intriguing with choices like black pepper. I chose the fig and ricotta gelato, and it was ridiculously tasty! It came with a chip of peanut brittle that complimented the flavor. My fellow diners ordered Al Di La’s dessert special: spiced angel food cake with pears and whip cream and their raspberry sorbet which was all good. I highly recommend you stop by and try one of their masterpieces. As you can see in the photos, nothing was left on the plates. I’m also proud to say that our waitress mentioned we were the first table she’d had that only ordered dolci/dessert. Mmmm Brooklyn does it good.
