Oh I love cupcakes! This Upper West Side piece of sunny goodness has a unique and delicious take on a cupcake. Buttercup is owned by the same person who started Magnolia Bakery in the West Village, so they already know what they are doing. When choosing a delectable treat, I had no hesitation when I saw the “Peanut Butter and Jelly” cupcake! A bit reserved at the thought of the classic sandwich as a cake, my first bite completely erased that feeling. It is “Buttercup Golden Layer Cake (yellow)” with a grape jelly center. On top is a creamy peanut butter icing with a bit of crunchy peanuts that adds perfectly to the texture and taste. The cake was moist and icing fresh. My eyes are always bigger than my stomach, so they looked a bit small at first, but they were the perfect size. The richness and thickness of the dessert was just enough to be satisfied. I will absolutely be going back for another and maybe add a glass of milk this time!

Linda and Raul with Buttercup’s Banana Pudding
Buttercup also serves the best banana pudding in the city. It’s a pretty penny for a small cup (especially when you can’t stop eating it), but Blondie and I can guarantee you won’t be displeased. What makes it good is the consistency: huge chunks of vanilla wafers and large slices of banana. The thick and creamy pudding is a different dessert you wouldn’t normally think to get. Buttercup does this good old Southern dessert dish right! xoxoBrownie
